Privacy Policy

Effective July 2023

Museum of Toronto Histories, a federally incorporated company in Canada, and its affiliates, and their successors and assignees (collectively referred to as “Myseum of Toronto” and / or “We”, “Us”, etc), are committed to protecting your privacy.

This Website Privacy Policy (“WPP”) applies to the collection, use and disclosure by Myseum of Toronto of information about Personal Information (defined below), and other information about you that we may collect through Myseum of Toronto websites, including myseumoftoronto.ca. This WPP does not apply in connection with Myseum of Toronto services, where the terms of the services contract would apply instead.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

We may collect, store, and use the name, email address, phone number, billing information, and other details of your inquiry or communications with us you provide us with by filling out a contact or inquiry form on our websites. By submitting the information, you are consenting to our use of this information in accordance with this WPP until you revoke your consent in writing.

If we collect personal information as defined by Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“Personal Information”), we do so in accordance with Canadian privacy laws, and ensure that all third parties (such as service providers, prospective investors in our business, and prospective purchasers of all or any portion of our business) who have contact with your user data have promised to comply with those laws as well.

We may use Personal Information to:

  1. administer our programs, including the management of your account and payment for services;
  2. provide generalized marketing and demographic information to our partners, and prospective partners;
  3. respond to your inquiries;
  4. communicate with you for the purposes described in the “Use of Cookies & Tracking Technologies” section below,
  5. inform you of other products or services available through Myseum of Toronto,
  6. to send you surveys regarding current services or new services that we are considering offering;
  7. communicate information and offers to you; and
  8. understand and analyze our user needs, and preferences.

Credit card information is always encrypted during transfer over networks. You understand that your information (except credit card information), may be transferred unencrypted and involve:

  1. transmissions over various networks inside and outside of Canada; and
  2. changes to conform and adapt to technical requirements of connecting networks or devices.

Myseum of Toronto does not sell, rent or lease Personal Information to third parties.

Myseum of Toronto will give you notice and obtain your consent before using or disclosing your Personal Information for any purpose that is not described in this Policy.

Myseum of Toronto may collect information about your visit to any Myseum of Toronto website, as described in the “Use of Cookies & Tracking Technologies” section below. By using or accessing our websites, you consent to us collecting and using this information in accordance with this WPP

Use of Cookies & Tracking Technologies

Myseum of Toronto uses cookies and other similar tracking technologies to gather information about your visit to any Myseum of Toronto website and distinguish you from other visitors, to personalize your online experience, to display customized content and advertising, and to measure the effectiveness or performance of our websites and advertising.

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer or mobile device by a website in order to remember information about your browsing history or your device when you return to that website.

One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. Myseum of Toronto uses third party analytics, including those offered by Google Analytics, to create reports and statistics on visits to our websites.

You may disable cookies in your browser settings and clear your cache of previously installed cookies. However, if you disable cookies, Myseum of Toronto websites may not function properly and your personalized online experience may be hindered. In addition to disabling cookies, you may also install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, which prevents Google Analytics from collecting information about your website visits. 

Myseum of Toronto also uses third party advertising services, including Google Ads Remarketing, and the Facebook Pixel, to deliver customized content and advertising to you and to measure the effectiveness or performance of our advertising campaigns.

Google uses cookies and/or device identifiers to serve you advertisements on sites across the Internet based upon your past visits to Myseum of Toronto websites. Facebook uses cookies, web beacons and other storage technologies to serve you advertisements on and off Facebook’s platform based upon your past visits to Myseum of Toronto websites and elsewhere on the Internet.

You may opt out of Google’s use of cookies or device identifiers by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You may opt out of Facebook’s collection and use of your information for the purposes of delivering customized advertising in your Ad Preferences or Ad Settings in your Facebook account. You may also opt out of seeing online interest-based advertising from participating companies (including Google and Facebook) through the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada.

Please note that if you opt out of certain kinds of advertising, you will continue to receive non-customized advertisements and you may continue to receive customized advertisements from parties that do not participate in the opt-out programs.

Retention period of your Personal Information

We’ll not retain your Personal Information longer than necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this WPP, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting or other legal requirements). How long we retain your Personal Information depends on the type of data and the purpose for which we process your data.

If we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal data, we will either delete or anonymize it, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your Personal Information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your Personal Information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.

Security of your Personal Information

Myseum of Toronto is committed to protecting the security of your Personal Information. We use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your Personal Information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. For example, we store the Personal Information you provide on computer systems with limited access, which are located in controlled facilities. When we transmit highly confidential information (such as credit card numbers) over the Internet, we protect it through the use of encryption technologies, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol.

Changes to this Policy

Myseum of Toronto encourages you to periodically review this Policy. Myseum of Toronto will occasionally update or change this WPP. The date that this Policy was last updated will appear at the top of the Policy. Your continued use of our website(s) after updated terms are posted will constitute your agreement to the updated terms. Myseum of Toronto recommends that you subscribe to this page to receive notifications.

No Liability for Third Parties

We disclaim any and all liability for the acts, omissions, and conduct of any third party. Under no circumstances will we, our employees, officers, directors, employees, agents, licensors, or their respective successors and assigns, be liable to you for any injury, loss, damage, or expense arising in any manner whatsoever from:

  1. the acts, omissions, or conduct of any third party; or
  2. any access, use, reliance upon, or inability to use any third party materials, content, goods, or services located at, or made available at, our websites,

… regardless of the cause and whether arising in contract, tort, or otherwise. The limitations in this section apply even if we knew of or ought to have known of the possibility of such damages.

Myseum of Toronto welcomes your comments regarding this Privacy Policy. General Terms

These terms will be governed by and interpreted according to the laws of the Province of Ontario, and the federal laws of Canada which apply in Ontario.

You will not assign or otherwise transfer any of your rights and obligations contained in this WPP to any other person. We may freely transfer or assign any of our obligations.

All provisions of this WPP, which by their nature should survive, will survive termination of any use of or access to the websites.

If any part of this WPP is unenforceable, the enforceability of any other part of this WPP will not be affected.

If we choose not to enforce any right that we have against you at any time, then this does not prevent us from later deciding to exercise or enforce that right.
